The Loyola women's volleyball team struggled in their first tournament of the season, the Duquesne/Robert Morris Tournament, dropping all four of their matches in Pittsburgh, PA.

In their first contest Saturday, the Hounds lost 3-1 (10-25, 18-25, 15-25) to tournament host Duquesne University in the Dukes' home gym. Camaioni almost reached a third consecutive double-double, but fell short with nine kills and 10 digs.

Born added 12 digs of her own, while Woodward provided three blocks to make up for a disappointing offensive stat line. Freshmen Dircks and Koncelik added five and four kills respectively to the Loyola attack.

The Greyhounds did play the undefeated Dukes' closer than the scores would indicate, but seemed to lack a spark of ingenuity to spring the winless Hounds to their first victory.

In their second contest Friday, the lady Hounds lost to Bowling Green 3-0 (14-25, 18-25, 27-29) at the Sewall Center in Moon Township, PA., despite another Camaioni double-double.

Freshmen setter Aubrey Kirvin dished out 26 assists, a service ace, and a block to supplement Camaioni's 11 kill 11 dig personal performance, but the Greyhounds were unable to sustain their high levels of play for an entire match. Loyola controlled the first two matches early, but allowed Bowling Green to creep back into the contests and eventually come out victorious.

In the deciding game, Loyola rallied from an 8-3 deficit and carried their momentum to tie the game at 25-25. A Camaioni kill gave Loyola a 27-26 lead, but Bowling Green took three straight points to win the contest.

Other top performers for the Greyhounds included Woodward with seven kills and a block and freshmen Janet Pressler with three aces.

Kirven was fantastic in her Loyola debut, posting 29 assists, 11 digs, four kills, two aces and a block.

The Greyhounds were truly strong competition for the pre-season NEC favorites throughout the match, showing an offensive prowess that was lacking last season. Although the Loyola defense was strong in notching 51 digs, the Hounds were out-blocked 20-4 for the match.
