Cupid must have given the Loyola women's track team his wings last week. All the mile runners flew past the finish line, each recording a personal best at the Navy Invitational on Valentine's Day. Twelve members of the squad attended the meet, and they competed in three main events: the mile, the 200 and the high jump.

"I can't recall a meet where every girl beat her personal record," head coach Brett Harvey said. "It's amazing … all the girls had the right attitude. We ran with no expectations except to run fast."

Freshman Lindsay Wilson had a stellar performance in the mile, finishing third overall with a time of 5:11.73. Her performance earned her a personal-best time along with the best time recorded by a Loyola freshman.

Trailing Wilson and helping Loyola earn three top-10 spots was Loyola junior Maureen Wynne, who took fifth in the event with a time of 5:12.61, and freshman Kate Cervo, who finished seventh (5:17.75).

Also recording personal bests for the Greyhounds in the mile were senior Bethany Gentry (5:30.51), junior Kaitlin Beckert (5:47.70) and sophomore Kristen Ford (5:56.95).

In the 200 event freshman Angeline Diamond led the team with a time of 28.03, placing fourth, and finishing two spots behind was junior Brittany McDonald (28.33). In addition, junior Melanie Mitchell (29.11) and sophomore Brittany Goodby (29.24) posted their best times of the season.

Sophomore Kim Amaducci and junior Melanie Mitchell ended the meet in the high-jump competition. Amaducci took third and Mitchell placed forth.

"These past two weeks have been the most complete we've been from top to bottom," Harvey said. "We're getting the total package."

This week the Greyhounds will prepare for the 2008 MAAC Indoor Track and Field championships, which are scheduled for Feb. 22 at the New York Armory.

Harvey's being realistic; his goal is to place third at the championships, conceding to Rider and Manhattan. However, he hopes the Hounds sweep the distance events, proving why Loyola runners have the top times in the MAAC so far this year.

"I'm going to run Maureen [Wynne] in the 5k, Andrea [Rovegno] in the mile and Lindsay [Wilson] in the 3k," Harvey said. "Maureen and Andrea will be joining Lindsay in the 3k, but I'm saving Lindsay for this specific event. We want to make a statement about our distance runners."
