Loyola Greyhound

Come Wednesday, Loyola will bring further change to its campus when it ceremoniously opens the new School of Education. A change two years in the making, the new school, under the stewardship of founding dean, Peter Murrell, is a welcome and necessary addition to Loyola University.

On the night of October 2nd, a Loyola junior jumped out of a third story Seton window, fell to the ground, and broke two or three of his lower vertebrae. A lot of people may ask themselves why a person would do such a thing; many may jump to the conclusion of attempted suicide, but, in fact, this was not the case at all.

I will say, I've been proud this semester. An odd comment, to be sure, but one I feel comfortable standing by. Well done to Loyola for becoming a university, but that has nothing to do with this new feeling. And I couldn't be more pleased about the Phillies "three-peating" with another division championship, but that is a topic for another column.

Celebrities receive special treatment. This isn't come big secret. It's stating the obvious. From their astronomical salaries to the exclusive places to which they can easily gain entrance, to say they live a life of privilege would be an understatement. However, how far should those benefits extend? Where does the line between getting a table at an elite restaurant end and being acquitted of criminal charges begin? It seems like these days there is hardly an actor, musician or politician whose record is squeaky clean.
